Heber Valley Summer Dressage Show Expected to Draw Utah's Top Equestrians
Heber, UT The Heber Valley Summer Dressage Show, scheduled for June 25th and 26th at Deer Meadows Farm, has blossomed into one of the intermountain west’s premier equestrian events. In just three years, the 2-day horse show has grown from 65 entries to almost 300, and is sanctioned by the U.S. Equestrian Federation and U. S. Dressage Federation. Nationally recognized judges will evaluate performances in over 30 classes, from Training Level 1 through FEI. The show also features a musical freestyle class, quadrille performance, and Pony Club class.
“Our goal is to put on a high quality, competitive, and enjoyable dressage event,” explained Wendy Gray-Bizzaro of Gray-Barron Ranch, who is the show’s manager and primary sponsor. “We want people to know that Utah is competitive in the art of dressage.”
Originally intended for military use, dressage training was begun early in the 16th century. It is a systematic and progressive method of training horses to execute a wide range of very precise movements, from the simplest riding gait to the most intricate and difficult. The famed Lippizan stallions perform advanced dressage movements. Dressage is also an event in the summer Olympic Games.
