The Morgan Horse Magazine Article—Morgan Dressage History Made!

On August 27-28, 2007 a milestone was reached in Morgan Dressage history. At the Sage Creek Dressage show in Charleston, Utah, one rider rode three different Morgans in FEI-level tests. This was a first for the Morgan breed at any United States Dressage Federation (USDF)/United States Equestrian Federation show, and it was a particularly noteworthy accomplishment as all three Morgans received credible scores in the 60's from two "S" (Senior) judges.

Both Greentree Courtney and Greentree Ever Reddi had been shown Fourth Level by previous riders, but Wendy thought they needed someone with more upper level experience to take them to Prix St Georges and beyond. It is obvious that the match is a good one. Courtney and Reddi have been very successful in Prix St Georges. Reddi has scored as high as 65, and the two of them are ranked first and second among Morgans competing at that level.

Many Morgans have the ability to compete successfully at the highest levels in Dressage, and we believe that the day will come when a rider with three Morgans at FEI levels will no longer be noteworthy.

USDF Magazine features Gray Barron Morgans in
"Best of all Non-Warmblood Breeds for Dressage" article

Morgans are known for their willing and kind dispositions. These traits, when combined with a good measure of athleticism, make for wonderful dressage horses, according to David MacMillan of Provo, UT, who has been training Morgans in dressage for the past eight years and who has ridden three Morgans to FEI levels.

"Morgans are generally smaller than your average warmblood and have an easier time finding and maintaining their balance" says MacMillan "They tend to be lighter in the contact when working through their backs, which makes for a wonderful dressage experience."

"Dressage is new to the Morgan industry, and breeding programs established with just dressage and/or sporthorses in mind are very young," says Morgan sport-horse breeder Wendy Gray Bizzaro, owner of Gray-Barron Ranch in Park City, UT, whose horses MacMillan trains and rides. That said, Bizzaro has noticed a trend in Morgan pedigrees when it comes to dressage.

2005 Open Competition Winners: Fourth Level Dressage Champion

Few things are guaranteed, with the exception of death, taxes and the fact that one of Wendy Gray-Bizzaro's fantastic Morgan mares will clinch an AMHA Open Competition Championship title. Since 2000, the Bizzaros have been entering their Morgans in USDF and USEF-sanctioned shows, winning an unprecedented number of awards in Dressage, Training through Fourth Level, Second and Third Level USDF Freestyle, Hunter/Jumper, and In-Hand classes. This year's star of Gray-Barron Ranch is Greentree Courtney, who moved up to the Fourth Level Championship after claiming the Third Level Championship just last year. Courtney is one of the three outstanding horses in the Gray-Barron Ranch show string who have had tremendous successes both in and out of the open competition arena. In fact holding the reserve championship title to Greentree Courtney is fellow Gray-Barron Ranch star, Greentree Ever Reddi. There is no doubt that the Bizzaros have achieved their mission to produce and train top-quality performance horses with the classic features of the Morgan breed: excellent conformation, fluid gaits, strength, agility, and a pleasant temperament. The Morgan community should be proud to have the Bizzaro's talented horses winning championships and showing the world what superior Dressage horses Morgans can be.
